The pulse of life - Innovative solution to cardiac arrhythmia
Cardiac arrhythmia is not unusual. In intensified form, however, it is one of the most dangerous diseases. One possible trigger is the transmission of false electrical impulses through certain parts of the heart tissue. The therapies is this case include so-called catheter ablation. Here, the tissue which sends the faulty pulses by using a laser catheter is desolate and turned off as a pulse. Ideally, then a regular heartbeat sets in again.
In order for this demanding and often life-saving intervention to succeed, the laser technology of the ablation catheter must meet the highest specifications. A significant contribution was made by Euromicron. For the electrode laser catheter made by LasCor's RytmoLas, the fiber optic component specialist delivered high-quality FSMA connectors which ensure faultless coupling of the laser beam into the light guide. This allows undisturbed surgical operation. In addition, EUROMICRON developed a distributor made of Makrolon®-for management of fiber optic and low-voltage cables as well as jetting hose.
The FSMA connectors manufactured for LasCor feature have been visibly changed and compared to the standard version. The connectors are longer than conventional FSMA connectors, which guarantees a particularly stable guidance of the optical fibers. In order to be able to connect easily and disconnect the laser device and laser catheter manually, hexagon union nuts were used and replaced by knurled-head screws for fasten connection. From a technical side, the the difficult procedure can be prepared perfectly in just a few easy steps. EUROMICRON delivered the same connector model for another two of LasCor’s laser catheters: TransLas, developed for punctures of the cardiac septum, and SensoLas, used for examinations of the esophagus.
